Estonia’s largest and most iconic shopping centre, Tallinna Kaubamaja is to go through a major expansion, increasing the floor space by 250%.
The project to increase the space at Tallinna Kaubamaja will take between five and seven years to complete according to the head of the shopping centre, Erkki Laugus.
It will include a three floor underground car park and the current primary building will be demolished. The Tallinna Kaubamaja Group will launch a competition for designs.
The consumer market in Estonia is growing very rapidly, seeing an 8% rise last year. There are many new complexes being developed to cater for the expansion. However, many of these are outside the centre of Tallinn.
Tallinna Kaubamaja is an iconic location in the centre of the city. It is also well known as one of the few places to shop during the Soviet era.
