Hungary’s level of unemployment has fallen to 6.2% for the months of October-December of last year according to the country’s Central Statistical Office (KSH).
The number of people unemployed over the period averaged 280,700. For the same period of 2014, the rate of unemployment stood at 7.1%, an improvement of 0.9% over the year.
Currently, 48.3% of the unemployed have been seeking a job for more than a year.
Bernadett Szel of LMP, one of the country’s small opposition parties said in response to the numbers that Viktor Orban’s Fidesz government is only concerned about producing favourable statistics. She added that hundreds of thousands of people are earning wages putting them well below the poverty line, crucially ignored in the data.
