A number of large events hosted by Slovakia is expected to contribute to an increase in tourism in 2016.
Last year, the country attracted four million visitors and the tourist board expects this to rise by up to 7% in 2016.
Events such as the European Figure skating Championships in January, the Women’s Alpine Skiing World Cup in March and the European Championships in white water slalom in May are expected to contribute significantly to the increase in the tourism figures for the year.
Slovakia’s second city holds the title of the European City of Sport for 2016 and the country will preside over the Council of the European Union between July and December.
It is hoped, these will also add positively to the tourism figures for the year.
