The month of January saw 122,000 foreign visitors coming to Slovakia, representing a 30% increase from January of 2015.
Domestic tourism figures also show a record for the month at 198,000 representing a 31% increase year on year.
All major foreign tourist markets saw an increase in visitors, including people from the major markets of Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Germany and Austria. Surprisingly, there has been an increase in visitors from Russia in January, following two years of consecutive declines.
There were a variety of reasons for the impressive number of visitors in the first month of the year. These include skiing conditions being particularly good, the Figure Skating European Championships and successful marketing and advertising campaigns.
