The Ministry of Infrastructure has issued initial plans to construct a new port in the Dnieper-Bug estuary.
The plan for an offshore port will receive state funding and will begin construction in the middle of next year according to reports. The aim of the port is to try and encourage Ukraine’s shipbuilding industry and to increase the country’s exporting capacity.
It will give access to ships over 100,000 tons, unable to use many of the ports in the region, and will save the owners of the cargo time and money.
The next step for the project will be the approval of Ukraine’s cabinet ministers.
Ukraine had 31 ports in the country prior to the annexation of Crimea by Russia.
