Hungarian Tourism, the organisation set up to promote Hungary as a travel destination, has reported that the number of tourists in the first eight months of 2015 from overseas, has risen 17% compared to the same period last year.
The report also states that the number of tourists from the United States has grown 14%, with 624,000 nights stayed in the country in the first eight months of the year. Tourists from the United States had risen by 41% between 2010 to 2014, with last year’s figure being 490,000 people.
87% of visits were for pleasure and 13% for business, according to the Hungarian Tourism survey.
As a way to promote Hungary to American tourists further, the Consulate General of Hungary in New York is holding an event to showcase Hungary and other parts of Central Europe. Hungarian Tourism is also trying to negotiate a direct route between Hungary’s capital, Budapest and New York with the aim of making access to the country easier.
