Inflation in Belarus 12% Last Year

According to the National Statistics Committee, inflation in Belarus for 2015 was 12%. 

Alexei Yarkovets explained the details to journalists at a press briefing in Minsk on Wednesday. Food products saw inflation of 11% with non-food products experiencing a 11.5% rise. Service sector inflation was 15.7%.

Yarkovets said that whilst inflation appeared high, it was still within the target set at the beginning of the year. He said that the National Bank expected it to reach as high as 18% mid way through the year.

In other news from the country, official unemployment statistics of 1% were released at the beginning of the year. In Minsk, the number was lower still at 0.6%.
