European Companies Begin Cheese Production in Russia

European companies are setting up cheese production on Russian soil in a bid to get around the export ban to the country.

German dairy producer DMK Deutsches Milchkontor has been given the go ahead to purchase several Russian cheese companies, including the Bobrovsky cheese factory. They are also purchasing a number of cheese distributors in the Moscow region.

The acquisitions will enable the German manufacturers to sell cheese in Russia, following the embargo of European imports, implemented by Russia following Western led sanctions over the conflict in Ukraine.

It is claimed that the German company had planned to enter the Russian market long before the Russian embargo had begun.

Earlier in the year, it emerged that French dairy producer Agrial, intends to set up around 100 mini farms in a bid to launch cheese production in Russia.
